Covid-19 Update – 2021

Given the latest lockdown restrictions and government and RCVS advice to reduce non-essential travel and contacts, we are currently having to reduce some of the services we offer.

We are still here 24 hours a day to see our registered client’s sick and injured pets.

We are working hard to try and maintain our high quality and efficient service but please be aware that waiting times for appointments, repeat prescriptions, and for telephone reports are likely to be increased. This is due to the time-consuming procedures we have to follow between consultations to keep staff and clients safe. In addition, we are often working with reduced staff numbers, often at short-notice as staff self-isolate due to Covid. We understand that this may be frustrating, but our staff are here to help, and aggressive behaviour or verbal abuse will not be tolerated.

Virginia, also known as Gin, qualified from Cambridge University in 1985. Having worked in mixed practice in Derbyshire and Lancashire and moved to Dimples Lane Vets in 1994 working mainly on the farm animal side of the practice.

Since the merger to form Lanes Vets in 2007, Gin decided that small animal work was for her and has become our Small Animal Clinical Manager at the Garstang Branch.

Endo live in the host Eco live on the surface of the host Fleas can cause severe irritation leading to infection of the skin (flea allergy dermatitis). They may also carry Bartonella - this is a bacteria that causes the disease Bartonellosis, also known as Cat Scratch Disease. As well as diseases, fleas can carry the flea tapeworm which can cause harm to our pets and has been known to infect humans. Ticks are parasites we associate with our pets but they can also affect us and our families as they can carry disease risks. In the UK, ticks can carry various germs including the bacteria that causes Lyme disease, an infection that affects both dogs and humans: symptoms can include a ‘bull’s-eye rash’ in people, but this doesn’t always occur. Other symptoms include lethargy and flu-like symptoms, making it difficult to diagnose. Roundworm It’s quite common for dogs around the world to deal with roundworms. But young pups often experience the most severe effects of the resulting disease from a roundworm infection. And worst of all, dogs can become infected again and again. Tapeworm How does a dog get tapeworms? Dogs can be infected with tapeworms by ingesting any number of intermediate hosts. This is especially a concern for urban dogs that spend a lot of time around other dogs, or outdoors with their owners going hunting, camping, hiking or just living on a farm Prevention can be an excellent way to manage the parasite risk to your pet so the best way to ensure your pet doesn't have any fleas, ticks or worms is to speak to your local branch about products to protect them.
